Pikes Peak View From Austin Bluffs

By Steve Castle

Artwork to Benefit Austin Bluffs Open Space

Citizens of Colorado Springs have joined together to form the Austin Bluffs
Conservation Association in an effort to preserve and protect the open space
on the east side of Union Blvd between Austin Bluffs Pkwy and Academy Blvd.
This 50 acre ecologically diverse area has magnificent rock formations,
heavily forested bluffs, meadows and wetlands, which provide habitat for a
wide variety of plant and wildlife.  In addition to the hundreds of people
who use the property weekly for recreational purposes, it serves as a scenic
view shed for thousands of motorist every day. One of the photographs in John
Fielder's new book "Colorado 1870-2000" was taken from a hoodoo overlook in
this open space area.  Unfortunately, the area is under development pressure.

Steve Castle, a Colorado Springs resident and nationally recognized artist,
has created an exquisite painting of the open space entitled "Pikes Peak -
View from Austin Bluffs" from which he has produced a limited edition of
signed and numbered 16" X 21" prints.  All proceeds from the sale of the
prints will be used to purchase and maintain the bluffs, trails and wetlands.
You are cordially invited to Kemper Galleries, 5420 N. Academy Blvd, on
April 29 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. where Steve will be signing the prints.  The
print would be a beautiful addition to any home or office and make a
wonderful gift for a friend, relative or yourself!  More importantly you will
be helping preserve an oasis in the heart of the city for all to enjoy
forever.  If you prefer not to purchase a print, donations will be greatly
appreciated.

To order a print by mail or for more information call Scot Hume, 598-6106;
Karen Lisle, 532-9945, Steve Castle, 593-9226 or visit the website:

The print can be seen on the website and is
also on display at Kemper Gallery.  Your donation will be tax deductible.  As
citizens we can sit back and watch our city become another strip mall city or
we can stand up and fight for our quality of life. Your support in helping
preserve one of the last remaining open spaces in the heart of Colorado
Springs is appreciated.
