November 1, 1999 Neighborhood Meeting On The Open Space Proposal

We had a wonderful turnout of over 75 people with another 30 calls from folks who were interested but couldn't be there.  Steve Castle and I gave a fairly detailed description of the land involved and who the land owners are.  Everyone was interested to here that each of the parcels had been sold within the last year.  Two of the parcels on the south end closed on October 5th and the parcel on the north end will close on November 11th.

A very interesting point presented by a number of folks is that the water table in the neighborhood is rising and many of the houses along Ridgeglen, Ridgecrest and Westwood now have pumps and French drains to keep the basements cleared.  Discussion of the hydrology of the region followed.

Many of the residents can still recall speaking to Gordon the developer of Garden Ranch about having an open space park.  They are going to dig through old records and try to find the letter promising park lands in the area.

Neighborhood block captains volunteered and a calling circle has been coordinated to help get as many people involved as possible.  City Council is being invited to next weeks presentation.
